I spent the first 28 days of January rising and shining in my online community space to guide the 1969 book “Richard Hittleman’s 28 Day Yoga Exercise Plan”. It was a fascinating exploration of yoga as presented over 5 decades ago, and a brilliant reminder of the timelessness of yoga. Each day offered an assortment of yoga shapes (asana) and practices and a short essay of the author’s thoughts. I added in my thoughts on how yoga has evolved, how some of the ways we speak to certain topics has evolved, and in at least one case I added in why I wasn’t going to teach the shape the way it was presented.
This is the book I first learned yoga from in the 1980’s and while Hittleman is no longer a household yoga name, he was once a regular teaching yoga on TV and his yoga books sold in the realm of 8 million copies.
If you missed it (and it I’ve piqued your curiosity) there is good news. The first round of 28 days was so good that I’m doing it again, at a slightly lighter pace of 4 days per week. This time through I am leading just the practices without his (or my) commentary.
AND with the recordings of the first round paired with this round, I have created my first online course. This space already has 30 full recorded practices in it, plus a few bonus videos breaking down a few of the shapes and offering adaptations to ensure accessibility as best I can. And now through most of March, members of that course can drop in on live zoom classes Monday through Thursday morning at 7:30am.
This collection is perfect for those who may be looking to learn more about yoga, in a way that isn’t all about the more modern love of flow and sun salutations. Hatha yoga is a powerful practice of seeking the shapes, holding them, and honoring the transitions. It is offered with spaces to grow into, and without the commentary many of these practices are just 20-30 minutes. These practices require nothing but a space you can stand, sit, and lay down in (no yoga mat required) which also makes them perfect when you are traveling. I’m thrilled to offer this collection of 31 unique practices in 61 practice videos to those outside of the Yoga of Connection Club! It’s a one time access fee, and within the reasonable limits of technology shifts and the human life span, I intend for it to be available to you as long as you want it.
Let’s do yoga together!
